The guys of Hawk Nelson admit that they could jump around, rock out and call it day — but they believe in a purpose greater than the music: to know and be the love of God to people everywhere.

The Sound Opinion recently caught up with lead singer Jason Dunn to talk about their new album, Crazy Love.

What do you hope people will take away from this album and from your concerts?

The songs are very honest and talk a lot about issues that teenagers may be dealing with. We’ve always tried to focus on things that people are struggling with on the inside.

We’re hoping this album encourages people to show some love and maybe step out of their comfort zone a bit. It’s not always the easiest thing to show love to a complete stranger — giving someone a dollar isn’t always comfortable — but we want to encourage people to step out of their comfort zone and make a difference in this world.

We received a letter the other day after a show from a young girl who has had a pretty rough go the last few years. Her closing words were, ‘I just want to die.’ It shows the type of audience that we have an opportunity to minister to. For young kids like that, these are the ones who need to be loved and we want to help encourage them to stay strong. It’s a big responsibility for sure.

Where do you get the inspiration for your songs?

A lot of inspiration comes from flying on airplanes. I’m not really sure why, but that’s when inspiration comes the most. I love what we do, and we’re having a blast doing it!

Where can fans see Hawk Nelson perform?

We’re on the Revolve Tour right now. Lots of teenage girls — it’s crazy! For the summer, we’re going to be doing a lot of festivals. Definitely check out our website to see if we’re coming near you!
