Matt RedmanMatt Redman made headlines at the 44th Annual GMA Dove Awards, held October 15 in Nashville, Tenn., as the acclaimed songwriter garnered six awards, including the prestigious honors of Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year for his celebrated worship anthem “10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord).” Redman also took home Doves for Contemporary Christian Performance of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year and Praise & Worship Song of the Year. Moreover, Redman received a Dove for his contribution to the winning Special Event Album of the Year for Passion: Let the Future Begin (sixstepsrecords).

The multi-Dove Award winner was unable to attend the ceremony because he was overseas for his European tour. Pastor, author, speaker and sixstepsrecords founder Louie Giglio accepted all of Redman’s awards on his behalf.

Following closely behind Redman, both TobyMac and Jason Crabb each received four Dove Awards, with TobyMac being crowned Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, an emotional For King & Country accepted the award for New Artist of the Year. The brothers were recently united following Luke’s hiatus due to serious illness. Mandisa was the surprised recipient of UP TV’s Uplift Someone Award. Other notable winners included Chris Tomlin, whose album Burning Lights (sixstepsrecords) earned him a Dove for Praise & Worship Album of the Year; and Lecrae, who picked up Doves for Rap/Hip-Hop Song and Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year.

Hosted by Amy Grant and Kirk Franklin, this year’s show celebrated Christian music’s diversity with memorable performances by TobyMac and Britt Nicole, NEEDTOBREATHE, Kristian StanfillColton Dixon, Capital Kings, Trip Lee, Rhett Walker Band, Newsboys and Michael W. Smith, among others. Multi-artist performances also provided some moving moments with tributes to Billy Graham and Bill Gaither.
