For King & Country
For King & Country has become one of the most talked about new artists this year. The band was voted “New Artist of the Year” at both the first annual K-LOVE Fan Awards and the Dove Awards. They released a live CD/DVD combo that showcases their spectacular live concerts, and this holiday season they’re giving fans a mini holiday treat in the form of a Christmas EP. Into the Silent Night (Fervent) features two originals, two classics and one live recording.
The holiday outing kicks off with a jubilant, militant “Angels We Have Heard On High” that employs numerous colorful sights and sounds creating an uplifting, multi-sensory experience, reminding fans why this unique duo is one-of-a-kind. For King & Country’s version of “Little Drummer Boy” is equally as ambitious. The musicianship on both traditional carols pushes these songs into the modern-day world giving them a fresh twist that fans will thoroughly enjoy.
The two originals match the same frenetic, atmospheric pace. The title track is a snow-fallling, late-night city street stroll love song. “Baby Boy” is featured twice with a bonus live version at the end and a stunning opening line: “If you told me all about your sorrows, I’d tell you about a cure/ If you told me you can’t fight the battle, there’s a Baby Boy who won the war/ The war was won by a Baby Boy…Endless hope, relentless joy started with a Baby Boy.” As evidenced by the thoughtful lyrics, the Smallbone brothers choose to paint a different, out-of-the-box picture of the Christmas story, and listeners are all the better for it. Into the Silent Night will make fans eager for a fresh studio project from the award-winning duo slated to release in 2014.
