phillips,craiganddean1We recently caught up with the music trio Phillips, Craig & Dean to find out a few of their Christmas favorites. To help listeners stay focused on the reason for season, they have released their second Christmas album, “Hope For All The World.”

What is your most cherished Christmas memory?

Shawn Craig: Treasure hunts – the last gift was hidden and you had to find it with clues.

Randy Phillips: Driving with my parents every year from Texas to Louisiana at night and arriving at my grandparents’ house early in the morning. I’d make a pallet in the floorboard of the backseat and sleep until we arrived in Louisiana at around 1am. They’d have parched peanuts, homemade divinity, egg nog, and that metallic silver Christmas tree with the rotating 4-color light … red, green, blue, yellow.

What is your favorite:
– Christmas movie?
Shawn Craig: It’s a Wonderful Life
Randy Phillips: It’s a Wonderful Life
Dan Dean: A Christmas Story

– Christmas food?
Shawn Craig: Peanut butter fudge
Randy Phillips: Gumbo, Wanda’s Turkey & Gravy, Sweet Potato Crunch
Dan Dean: Homemade (by ME) Yeast Rolls

What is the best Christmas gift you ever received?
Randy Phillips: A car for my high school senior birthday

Dan Dean: A green bicycle complete with training wheels, when I was five years old

What, if any, traditions did you uphold growing up or now have with your own families?
Shawn Craig: The tradition of each member picking out their ornament to put on the tree and telling why they chose it

Randy Phillips: We all get new pajamas on Christmas Eve and gather around the fireplace where we open one gift. We leave cookies and milk out for Santa- which I eat- then open presents the next day. After presents we have a traditional Christmas dinner where we read the Luke 2 Christmas story and sing.

Dan Dean: Each year my wife, Becky, buys matching pajamas for the entire Dean clan– Becky and me, our kids and their spouses, and all of the grandchildren. We all have to wear them as we gather on Christmas Eve and again on Christmas morning. Everybody gripes about it…even me. (But my guess is that we would actually all miss it if she ever stopped!)

If the birth of Christ had been in modern times – and you followed the star, what gift would you bring?
Shawn Craig: An original song
Randy Phillips: A Mac Air computer
