Nominees for the 2nd annual K-LOVE Fan Awards were announced this morning at a press conference in Nashville, Tenn. Artists, managers, publicists, radio promoters, media and label personnel packed Studio A at the Grand Ole Opry House for this morning’s announcement that unveiled nominees in eight of the 11 total categories. (See below for a full list of nominees.)
One One 7 TV‘s Jennifer Vickery Smith served as the host of the press conference helping to introduce each speaker and artist on-stage. K-LOVE Fan Awards Executive Producer John Sanders and K-LOVE CEO Mike Novak welcomed those gathered, expressing their gratitude for the Christian music and entertainment community and their enthusiasm for this year’s event, building on the success of 2013’s inaugural Fan Awards, which saw over 1.1 million fans casting their votes for their favorite picks in music, books, movies and sports.
A selection of artists, including Mike Donehey (Tenth Avenue North), Jamie Grace, Bart Millard (MercyMe), Britt Nicole, Michael W. Smith, Michael Tait (Newsboys) and NASCAR’s Michael McDowell announced this year’s nominees. Pop outfit Anthem Lights also made a special appearance to announce the “Song of the Year” nominees by performing a mash-up of the category’s nominated tunes. In fact, the mash-up is available at iTunes here.
The category of “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” was dropped and new categories, including “Worship Song of the Year” and “Best Live Show,” were added. Nominees for the “Sports Impact,” “Book Impact” and “Film and Television Impact” awards will be announced at a later date. In addition, this year fans will have the opportunity to vote on the first Christian artist to appear on a 7UP can, thanks to premier sponsor Pepsi Mid-America who is continuing its efforts to support Christian music. While last year’s Christian artist Pepsi can panel series saw 12 million beverages distributed, this year 25 million cans will be distributed. The artists featured on this year’s line of cans will be unveiled during the Fan Awards weekend.
This year, every vote will go toward helping families in need. The K-LOVE Fan Awards is partnering with World Hope to build homes for families in Detroit, Mich. Every half million votes cast will unlock a newly remodeled home for a family in need, awarding up to four homes total.
Voting begins May 1 at www.klovefanawards.com. Winners will be announced at the awards show on Sunday, June 1, at the Grand Ole Opry House. The K-LOVE Fan Awards will be the culmination of an entire weekend of activities that will include a Fan Zone, a 5K benefiting the Hands & Feet Project, a worship service led by Michael W. Smith and 17 different shows throughout the weekend that will give fans access to their favorite artists, actors, authors and athletes. For tickets, visit www.klovefanawards.com.
