Ricardo UNITE VerticalRetailers from all around the world gathered at Cincinnati’s Duke Energy Center last week (June 27-30, 2017) for CBA‘s (Christian Booksellers Association) annual convention, UNITE (formerly ICRS, the International Christian Retail Show). Following a performance by Southern Gospel group The Collingsworth Family and an inspirational message from author Mary DeMuth, Difference Media recording artist Ricardo Sanchez played a 20-minute set with a full backing band at Tuesday night’s Worship Him! event. He opened the set with Chris Tomlin’s “How Great Is Our God,” a song he calls the “modern-day ‘Amazing Grace,’” setting the tone for the evening with a familiar worship anthem.

“This is a conference with an eclectic group of denominations, generations and cultures; and we wanted to introduce some of the new songs—at least one of them—so walking into [UNITE], we could have gone anywhere; and we did,” Sanchez said following his performance. “When we came out, I saw the audience… They’re passionate Christians, and they’re here to worship.”

Although his set consisted mostly of traditional worship anthems, instead of the singer’s original material, Sanchez did preview the title track from his forthcoming live album, Taste + See (Difference Media), set to release Sept. 29.

“I was a bit intimidated, to be quite honest, to do ‘Taste + See’—the title cut—because it’s got a very rhythmic, urban, funky feel. So I wasn’t sure if it was going to translate. People worship differently,” he offered. “I think people were totally receptive; they got it… They were clapping, and they were so complimentary about the song and the set.”
